First, you need to work on your portfolio. I suggest doing this for about half a year before starting too aggressively. Make sure you do all various tasks and work on projects of different type and scope so that you can demonstrate the diversity of your skills across many dimensions. Second, identify what kind of freelancer you want to be: web developer, designer, writer.. There are many different categories and it is important not just to find out which one suits you best and then move ahead but also the time commitment that will come with that career change.

Perks. Freelancing offers the freedom to work on your own terms. Freelancers are their own bosses, which means they're responsible for setting their high salaries and establishing their working hours. This job also gives you more than just one assignment at a time because freelancers provide the services that most people require - whether it's copywriting or web development or translation. You can set out your rates in advance so you never have to wait for jobs again after establishing an hourly rate with potential clients. Downsides. The challenges of freelancing arise when it comes time to find jobs and build your portfolio, which is why tackling these issues at the start is crucial.

There are a number of freelancing sites out there, with the most popular being Upwork.com, WriterAccess.com and Elance.com which allow you to sign up as a freelancer that is then available for a variety of freelance jobs including graphic design, web development and accounting delivery. Freelancers can have the freedom to set their own hours, determine which projects they work on and create their own schedule without having to answer to others. This means bypassing daily or weekly tasks such as constant supervision from your boss or dealing with co-workers who always want to chat about nonsense even though they've only been at the company for three months.

I would recommend first, find a niche and 2-4 clients you want to build up. Once that's done, the two main ways to start getting clients is A) Network and B) Search. A - Networking is simply making connections with professionals in your field who are already established. You can do this through personal introductions or social media events where creatives are networking with each other. The advantage of networking comes down to the old saying - it's not what you know but who you know! So if someone trusts the opinion of an artist they know over a faceless one on an email introduction there will always be more room for trust between artists who have built relationships together.

To start a career as a freelancer, the first thing you need to do is prepare yourself. Research what type of freelancing opportunities are available in your area, study the businesses that are hiring, and memorize their requirements before applying for jobs or proposals. Freelance work can be lucrative if done right. If you want to build an effective freelance career for yourself, you should take some time to study what successful freelancers do differently than would would-be straightforward employees.
