In order to become a freelancer, you need to have a significant portfolio. In other words, you need to be able to show clients what you can do. The best way of doing this is by starting your own website and building up a professional portfolio there, so that prospective clients can pop in and see your skillsets for themselves. This will help potential employers who are looking for someone with the specific skillset they're after without having to spend time searching through hundreds of profiles for it.

I'm sorry for the delay. There are many ways to become freelancer on Upwork just as there are many ways to freelance in general, but I would recommend starting off with a skill you're already competent at doing, and branching out from there. You can find work on Upwork for any profession or skill level--so don't be afraid to take a few steps back if that will improve your chances of success right out of the gate! If you have a niche expertise in an area where demand is high and supply is low, then getting started could be as simple as posting a short description about what you do well down below.

Freelance work is an increasingly attractive option for workers who are unable to find, or do not want to commit to, full-time work. Freelancers can also enjoy the freedom of having their own flexible schedule and working from wherever suits them best--at home, in the office or at a café like I like to do. All you need is basic computer skills (word processing, email), ingenuity, motivation and self-discipline. I know what you're thinking; Isn't freelancing stressful? And sure it can be challenging but meeting deadlines means larger paychecks and more money in your pocket!

Do you have a skill? If so, you just need to find people who are willing to pay for that skill. You can do this by browsing freelancing websites or by making connections in your network. the more skilled the the freelancer is, the more likely he/she will be able to earn an income through their work. Freelance jobs often offer flexibility which make them ideal for building a stream of income when combined with other sources of revenue. Do you have any skills in blogging or content marketing? Why not look into creating email courses related to these skills and selling it on sites like Udemy?

Be wary of scams or difficult deals that require you to promote or buy into things in order to get a job. Show your work and be the best at what you do. It's up to you if you want to build out your resume and portfolio with personal projects, but it is always good practice when looking for work to show what else can be done. A lot of times building items from scratch is the best option when trying to showcase ones self as a freelancer who is able share their talents broadly rather than honing in on one narrow aspect of their skillset which might not suit every project that comes along.
