I would not recommend doing any freelance work from home. It can be tempting especially when you get such a large email with the subject line "Do work from home" but if you get that email then I would look for them on your spam and delete it, because they are phishing for your information. If someone is really legitimate and needs some freelance help than they will reach out to their network and find someone who can do the job. If anything this contact information ask if you could do the project and offers to provide more details about what they want done. When in doubt I would always google it first before proceeding, just in case there is something fishy going on here (there usually is).

One often overlooked advantage of freelancing from home is that when you're sick, there's no need to drag yourself through a morning commute. Instead, you can work from the comfort of your bed or couch--lightweight laptop and cell phone in hand. It must be pointed out though that the downside to this benefit is it also means when you have a headache or midday slumps, they can hit at any time without warning. But still working from home saves on commuting funds alone! For most people with a little free time who want to freelance from home, the best way to get started is by identifying an area one has already been successful in and something they know about very well.

Doing freelance work without a contract can be risky. Attorney Laura Brownstone says that "many freelancers who think they are in the clear when it comes to getting paid for their work because they do not have an explicit contract in place with the entity for whom they are working, only to find out-too late-that no payment is forthcoming.". In addition, freelors need to be mindful of their insurance needs, and there may be hidden risks that could come into play without them realizing. For example, many people use PC's or phones for business purposes outside of the office which means that if anything malfunctions at home, it can affect your livelihood.
