It varies. But obviously, you are looking for more than just a few hundred dollars since the sheer amount of work would pay for any other profession. If you are willing to take contract jobs or do some translation without being paid up front, you could go onto translator sites like to get jobs translated quickly - but this is pretty much the standard rate that I'm talking about when I say it varies because they're not paying translators very well either! Translating even one single page at a time could earn 10 cents- 30 cents each depending on how many words there are in that translation.

To be a translator in the modern day, you will need to have skills in both your native language and another attained through secondary education. Experience is highly regarded when applying for jobs, but just like professionals in any industry, it can take time to find work! Additionally, according to an article by CNN Money called "Translators = $110 billion industry" Translating text means someone doesn't have to start their own company. A freelance translator is rewarded with higher wage rates per word than with translations done strictly for monetary recognition.

There is no single answer to this question. It depends on many factors, the major one being the language pair. Yet another factor is speed. As your speed increases, your per word rate will decrease. A translator who translated 5 words per minute would need 1 hour just to translate 2 pages of text into his or her own language using a CAT tool with 50% efficiency. Even if that person rates are $2/hour just for speaking English, then they only make about 5 cents per word at this rate, which is much lower than an 8-hour day minimum wage worker in Pakistan makes (about 12 cents/word).

The specific rate/amount you will make as a freelance translator depends on the individual, but generally, if you're good at translating (and can market yourself well), then rates typically start between $0.10 - $0.20 per word to about $0.40 - 0.50 per word. Keep in mind that many translators are also good editing their own work or other people's work so it is not necessary for one to specialize in only translation or only editing because often times translators are expected to provide general services such as language coaching for actors and subtitling jobs too!

Freelance translators can make a variety of income depending on how much demand there is for their services. The average annual salary for freelance translators is around $50,000 annually. This may be more or less depending on the specific language, the client's budget, and any other arrangements made with the client. The best way to know whether you're earning enough as a freelance translator is to figure out whether you're only translating what would only cost the company X dollars if they hired someone full-time at that rate.

As a freelance translator, you can potentially make anything from a dollar or two for short translations to much more for highly specialized work. The amount you can charge will depend on your skill set and the quality of previous work. In general, those with over 10 years of experience as a professional translator tend to charge rates between $40-$120 an hour or so, depending on company size and needs. Demand for medical translators has also increased in recent years due to increased globalization, but these types have different requirements and expectations going into them than general freelance translators. For instance, certification is required by many third-party institutions that contract their services - especially in the prestigious medical field - not just mere experience as a translator!
