    There are three criteria any writer needs in order to be a freelance writer. These include:. 1. Know what you're talking about. 2. Be able to properly match wording with content and tone of journalistic outlet. 3. Have the skills necessary to carry out tasks specified for your work such as establishing contacts, researching information, story writing etc.. This means that writers need vocational training which includes journalism courses and internships with an established new agency or newspaper before they become freelance writers themselves. Once you meet all the qualifications, freelance writers can make a great living too!

    To be a freelance writer, you must have special skills in two categories. 1- writing: That is, the ability to use words and grammar in a coherent and expressive fashion (native proficiency can be helpful here) and 2 - marketing: The ability to represent yourself effectively with networking skills; self-confidence; cold calling; salesmanship; professionalism; interpersonal communication skills. You also need an extensive knowledge of the subject matter about which you will eventually write. This includes both giving or taking instructions from clients. If you do not know enough about the topic at hand, then you cannot accurately deliver it on behalf of your client.
