At home, at their office, or on the go. The question is best tapped into what you think is true of freelance writers. Someone who is home often may work from there like a stay-at-home parent might make time to write even though they aren't already planning for it or training themselves to sit down and focus on writing; someone who works in an office may bring computer equipment with them everywhere they go and take advantage of whatever free time they have to work some more; and someone who is on call all day long might need to clear out anything that keeps them from the writing environment while also ensuring that downtime still remains unharmed.

Where does a freelance writer work? Freelance writers usually work in an office, local coffee shop, their home (and other remote locations). They answer questions like it's less about the space and more about the process. Wherever they need to be for good wifi, plug in or cable access. Wherever they happen to feel creative that day. Wherever lets them focus without distractions best. For many people it's also important to create different spaces when writing different types of content (e.g., researching academic papers vs marketing product descriptions; composing blog posts vs drafting an article to send off for publication). Changes in environment can often be what sparks creativity or jump starts progress on a stalled project.

A freelance writer typically works at home or in an office setting. A freelancer can decide where they are most comfortable working, though most choose the privacy of their own homes. There is a caveat to this option, however, as there are fewer people present to stop distractions, proactively think about what the client needs, and ensure quality work is being done. Working outside of one's home can be advantageous if there's less room for distractions in his or her designated space. The tradeoff with working out of an office is that it may be difficult for freelancers who cannot afford their own workspace to find a desk just yet.

Where a freelance writer works depends on the type of work being done. Some work from home while others have to commute to an office or a client's location. Traditionally, freelance writers have been associated with "word-of-mouth" marketing but other methods exist today which make it easier for freelancers to find work from any location. A second option is one provided by Upwork or other websites - signing up and working through them online only when the assistant is available. The third option requires finding local trade organizations where companies can post their needs and wanting freelancers can go respond accordingly.

In their home office. - Business phone for communicating with clients. - Computer and associated equipment for editing, saving, and submitting work to the client. - A copy of a recent draft saved on a flash drive or CD disks in case power goes out or computer malfunctioning occurs. - Business cards, pens, paper clips organized alphabetically by client name. In addition to business cards is an organized alphabetical correspondence file of client names with serial numbers assigned per client followed by relevant correspondences from said client listing orders/invoice numbers, dates received or payments due dates).

A freelance writer can work at their home, or they can spend the day working from a coffee shop. I know that this question didn't specify, but I'm going to answer it as though it did! You see, the internet has made the world a lot smaller place. So now freelancers can stay in their PJ's all day and still make an awesome living as long as they have a good Wifi connection. My experience is that you will want to find a space where your concentration is best both for self-discipline and for quality of work done. For me, my favorite space is a local coffee shop.
