In my experience, well-paid writers can earn about $150-$200 per hour. I've been fortunate in that I've been able to make a living wage from writing for clients online. But it takes time and dedication to actually carve out your niche and create a name for yourself as a writer. At the outset, you'll have no guarantee that you'll be making these rates or higher at any given stage of your career. You might need to work with lower paying clients just so you continue writing.

On average, a freelance writer can earn anywhere from $10 up to nearly $2,000 an hour for writing services. With writing prices starting as low as 10 dollars per page and going up to more than a few thousand dollars a page, writers have many options on how much they want to charge. Some writers will only offer their skills at a fixed price which is considerably higher than the going rate of any given project. These professionals are typically experts at what they do and may include trade journals, publications or faculty that frequently publish work with universities or organizations within their industries.

It is not easy to put an exact number on what writers make. There are different factors that come into play. Some factors that can affect how much writers make would be the assignment, writing style, and many other surrounding elements. The length of the assignment can also impact how much freelance writers will earn; for instance, a 2000-word article might pay more than a 500-word article for the same company blog post or magazine submission. Writers should expect to bring home around minimum wage ($7.25) per hour if they are accepted as syndicated content providers through Newsvine Pro Articles or have 1-2 years of experience under their belts with educational backgrounds in journalism or communications degrees from accredited universities.

That of course, depends on where the work is. In Toronto, you could expect to earn a couple of bucks per 100 words or maybe 3-10 dollars per 1500 word article, but it all varies from place to place. Writers generally start out with lower rates and then work their way up as they build their reputation and portfolio. It depends on the experience of the writer, the format for what they're doing, and how much time they're willing to put in. A typical hourly rate is $2-3 per hour with content writing or blog posts that may be anywhere from 1500 words to 4000 words. Some higher volume content websites are paying upwards of $4-6 per article if not more. If work is done professionally, you could also charge a fixed amount for an article that would typically be around $120-150 USD which includes all rights to copyright that may exist. It's important to think about whether you do this full time or part time as well as many other factors before deciding upon your rates.

If you were to ask me how much freelance writers earn, I would have to say up to $5 per word. Even though the average paycheck for a professional writer is typically between thirty and fifty thousand dollars per year, quality writing comes at a price. If they're in my blog roll and I remember their titles/links (and their blogs haven't been banned since then), they get ads posted on my blog banner or sidebar via my blog's advertising diid that pixels my blog URL in the lower right corner of the banner/sidebar when clicked within ~~5 seconds ~~.
