The site is worth it, if you find the right client and vice versa. If this is your first time hiring someone on the site, post a job for $5 to see what kind of responses you get. You can also sign up with a friend of equal level as the client and agree to do referrals before you meet anyone in order to help ensure that either one of you won't have any surprises when doing business together. On Freelancer, there are offers ranging from software development assignments at $180/hr or more, to logo design services for only $35/hrs.

Rather than asking, "Is freelancer.com worth it?" a better way to phrase the question would be "How do I take advantage of freelance marketplaces?" Because there are so many ways that you can take advantage of freelance marketplaces. In general, success doesn't have one specific definition and being successful at freelancing is not any exception to this rule. What can seem like success for one person might be an awful experience for another person. In order to decide whether or not freelancer.com is worth it, you'll have to ask yourself what your definition of success is in terms of the site.

Freelancer.com is free to use if you are an experienced freelancer, but for beginners it's not worth the hassle. Freelance-ers on average only get around 25% of the jobs they apply for online. So think of all that work you put into your resume, skills section, cover letter, portfolio, and then times by 100 to get how many hours that would be if you did get accepted for a job on freelance sites.. Plus more scams pop up every day - some companies will pay with fake cashier checks or even Western Union money transfers.

It's worth it if you want to work on projects with flexible deadlines. Freelancer.com is great because it opens up the opportunity for freelancers to earn money any time of day or night that they are available, without getting stuck working at a particular job for 40 hours a week. Between the flexibility and the sheer number of jobs there are on Freelancer, this site is an ideal place for people who're looking to support themselves with freelance gigs.

As far as freelance websites go, there are many. I must admit that this one peaked my curiosity because of the first word in its branding, "Freelance". While the word is commonly used to describe different professions (since it can either mean free to use or free agent) it does not necessarily mean money will be exchanged for services rendered. That said, I believe freelancer.com falls into that category of someone trying to make money off of other people's skills so they may reap benefits without any real work put in themselves.

It's all about what you can offer to the workers. For example, if you are looking for creative content writers who know how to work with multiple formats, then there is no better place than freelancer.com Just be aware that success on this site requires a good bit of work because it's not easy getting exposure in this competitive world. If you're just looking for someone to design your website or do any simple job, then it may be worth checking out sites like Elance or Odesk - both of these sites also use an hourly pay system (usually).
