Highest paid freelancers is a difficult question. People who are interested in earning large amounts of money should be aware that it may come with an increase in risk which will require additional effort, time, and energy to manage. According to Upwork's 2017 Top Freelancing Study, "the top five most in-demand skills for freelancers today are programming/coding (.NET), content writing/copywriting, marketing/social media management, web design & development (includes JavaScript), and graphic design." The jobs that pay well typically take 5-15 hours per week or 15+ hours per week depending on the activity involved.

Answer: The infographic below breaks down the freelance market by industry and salary ranges. We’ve also asked the freelancers about their number one tip for success, so you can get an idea of what it takes to be successful in today’s competitive marketplace.

Freelancing is no longer just a viable alternative to full-time employment; it has become the work lifestyle that many people, especially millennials, are choosing over standard 9-to-5 jobs. In fact, according to one study from Elance & oDesk [1], 43% of freelancers chose this work lifestyle by choice while only 2% were forced into it because they couldn't find a full-time job. People feel more connected to others with this

The freelancer "traditionally" trades free hours for a rate of pay. A typical trade is: 100 hours = $1000. They work about 2hrs/week and make $40,000 per year or more (average 40 hour weeks). These typical numbers are grossly distorted by the outliers on the high end; for example, I know contractors who can easily charge well over $100/hr . Contractor rates vary depending on how much work they have to do and where they live (just like any business). If you want your niche specialty skill set higher up in demand than just design articles once in a while then obviously go ahead and find out what people will pay .

What the freelancer does is key to what they're being compensated for. Skill, experience, and subject matter knowledge are major factors in what you could earn as a freelancer. Many have tried this line of work who might not be skilled or knowledgeable enough to offer much value as a freelancer. If you're trying to find out how good someone else is at something by checking their price-to-freelance ratio, it's not going to tell you much other than whether they have the financial backing necessary to continue offering their services for an indefinite period of time.

A few years ago, Pro.com conducted a study on the average freelance rates of various skill sets and published an infographic showing what type of tasks freelancers charge more for, from writing to animation. For example, content specialists charge an average of $9 per hour while UX designers make a bit more at around $35 per hour. To get a current list of the highest paying freelancers in your area, check sites like UpWork.com and Freelancer.com for listings specific to your region or city.

The good news is that with a little bit of digging you can find freelancers all over the internet from top to bottom, from engineers to writers. Hiring someone who's been in this field for a while and has respect will save headaches in the long run. If you're looking for their hourly rate, many freelance writers charge at least $7/hour whereas more niche skills may cost upwards of $60/hour. It all depends on your budget and what you're looking for. You may find some people out there more or less willing to push themselves, but it doesn't mean they're worth more than anyone else either. The old saying "you get what you pay for" rings true quite often on this topic.
