Read the guidelines for good profiles on upwork before you register. Make sure your listing includes information about your skills, links to samples of previous work, and references if applicable If you are an experienced freelancer with five years experience in writing, for example, make sure there are links to copies of articles or blog posts you have written. The advantage of verifying yourself is that once verified upwork will contact you when potential employers post projects List items either high or low depending on their importance to your ability to work on a project. For example if "project management" is not relevant skill then it should be listed as optional .

You have to do your homework first so you know how much to ask for, the quality of work you are willing to provide for this price, and should still keep your expectations realistic. Make sure you set up a good portfolio on the site with excellent examples of what you might be able to provide. Set an example time line that will take days or weeks depending on complexity or urgency then send it as a proposal. Note - If done properly there is no need for worry about not getting any jobs due to freelancers sometimes offer their services below market value; but beware these "lowballers" because eventually people will learn they're terrible workers and stop hiring them!

You have to stand out from all of the applicants by showcasing your skills in a comprehensive way on your profile plus provide meaningful responses when being interviewed with thoughtful questions. There are four points that you need to focus on if you want upwork work opportunities that offer better pay and more flexible hours. You're best off to use the chat function on upwork, so you can message potential employers directly. You may also want to post your resume to proactively see what's there. But don't forget it has a time limit so go back every few days. Just keep in mind that if you post your resume, there are no guarantees an employer will send you an offer for work - they just might check out your skills and opportunities exist that they want to hire for or refer someone who needs freelancers like yourself matching their job requirements. It never hurts to proactively let people know what kind of services you provide and just walk them through what they'll get if they choose your service as their vendor of choice.
