Whether a photographer needs a business license or not depends on where he or she resides. I will try to list the requirements by area, in alphabetical order if possible. Armenia: Photographers do not need a special permit but they have to register their personal projects with the Armenian Healthcare Ministry for statistical purposes. Australia: If you are operating within Australia you do not need an ABN, otherwise Contact your local chamber of commerce. Belgium: In Belgium, photographers need to apply for a "small enterprise" registration from Brussels Economic Development Agency free of charge and then they can start doing their business in that legal form set by Belgian law 11 Jan 2006.

Business licenses are required if the photographer is making their services available for purchase, which includes businesses too. Along with include business name and address, photographer may also need to submit the governmental agency's tax identification number (TIN). We recommend starting by checking with your state government to find out what they require. Though it can vary from one state to another, most states will typically require an occupational license or permit displaying the individual's name and address, as well as requiring copies of federal or state issued ID cards before issuing a permit. For instance in California it would go something like this: you must first enter data into the Department of Justice criminal law enforcement federal register application before submitting your local county clerk application.

There is no requirement for a photographer to register their business in most States. The formality of working as a photographer varies just the same as any other profession-it really depends on what you're doing and how often you offer your services, but there are no Federal laws governing this field at this time. In some states, photographers who offer wedding services need to register with their individual counties. In other states, they must procure a license from the state Department of Health or Board of Cosmetology before proceeding with work in salons or day spas.

A photographer is not required to have a business license in order to be compensated for their work. However, most photographers sign licensing agreements that they are obligated to uphold. Most professional photographers who make money from photography will register their company with the state where they live or do business. This is typically done during the startup process, and some work may need to be completed by an attorney or accountant after registering the company name with your Secretary of State's office. Presenting oneself as a professional photographer requires discipline on many levels - including following tax laws and paying all expenses related to their trade.

No. License laws vary from region to region, and they're typically based on the charitable service they provide. In some regions, a license is required in order to make money with a public performance of music or show of movies. But photographers don't fall under this category because their services are non-profit and not a public performance in any way shape or form--so no they don't need a business license unless they want one for some other reason like convenience or consistency (i.e., if you already do other trades like accounting).

    Answer: Yes.

As a freelance photographer, you need to obtain the proper business license for photography as specified by your state or jurisdiction so that you can operate with full legal authority.

This license will give you the power to legally sell access to public and private property, charge fees as defined by contract and verbally create relationships such as those between employer and employee for specific projects. The implication of not obtaining photo licenses is that any photos taken without permission will be considered stolen goods with severe consequences if found out.
