The word "fiverr" is not an acronym. Well, the fiv in fiverr does actually come from five dollars which was what many people felt their first gig for this site should cost. But it's pronounced Five-er. The term Fiver was invented by our founder Gee Chuang, who thought up the shortened name because he wanted to go with a "clever" domain name that was easy to remember and that described exactly what people could expect if they wrote on his topic of choice - IT related services like programming and web design.

Fiverr is a marketplace for creative and professional services starting at the price of five dollars. The word Fiverr was originally a British term meaning "army camp slang used by the military to describe the barracks dish-washing unit." The term was adopted as an inside joke because it's located on 5th street in Brooklyn, New York. In 2004, Fiverr launched as a directory to help connect freelancers with customers who need short-term work done cheaply and quickly. Nowadays its grown into one of the world's biggest online marketplaces that connects over 250 million registered users all around the world.

As the saying goes, "No one ever got rich off of Fiverr", but if you're looking for a quick, 5-dollar project done to your specifications, fiverr.com is an outlet you might want to consider. I'm not certain why it's called fiverr, though I assume people just started referring to it by that name in honor of its $5 average 'profit' for this "work at home" service. While the gig economy is booming these days with Uber and other ride sharing businesses among its main contributors - when it comes to services like Uber and Lyft there are far more drivers than customers so their $x price point is never an issue.

Fiverr was originally called "Gorilla Time" which is thought to have been inspired by the Gorilla Game on The Price Is Right, or another popular game show of its time. The company's G+ account says this name was designed to evoke an energetic state of mind where creativity has no bounds. It inferred that by working for five hours at a price of $5, the customer would likely receive an exceptional service that they cannot get anywhere else for that price. Surely they know their market better than anyone else!

That's something you'll have to find out with the help of your fiverr. Fiverr is called fiverr because people post gigs on the site for 5 dollars each - this way, there are no interested customers left holding their fingers crossed that someone else will make an offer for their need ASAP. Have you ever had a friend who charges out the ass for stuff? How'd they do it? By offering up different prices at different times to certain people. It's kind of the same thing with the pricing on Fiverr, but with more variety and better taste levels (don't worry, we've still got some delicious things you can find on there). Come check us out!

The name Fiverr came from a play on the word "fivestar.". The idea is that a normal gig while being 5-star quality might cost $5, so it would be considered a reasonable amount for someone willing to prepare high quality content at an affordable price. In addition to this, there are also other fun theories as to how the site got its name though nothing has been officially confirmed by the founders since their initial release of explanations in 2009.
